Last Friday RightNow announced the general availability of RightNow CX May 2011 release. This was an exciting release for the CX Platform team and specifically the integration & extension team. We added a number of enhancements and new features to the current integration and extension capabilities. I have been scrambling to prepare for the 2011 RightNow Developer Conference but felt I should take a moment to highlight some of the great enhancements we made available to CX developers.
Run Analytics Report – That’s right, you asked for it and we delivered. Beginning with the May 2011 release we have added the ability for CX developers working with Connect Web Services for SOAP or Connect for PHP to leverage the RightNow Analytics engine from the public APIs. The capability allows you to obtain report meta-data (columns, names, filter, filter attributes, etc…) using the standard Get operation. In addition, you can run a report supplying filter values and even overriding filter operators, the results of the report are returned in a standard CSV format. This capability allows integration developers to put control back into the hands of the RightNow CX administrators. Administrators can now simply change a report definition and your integration can display new data contained in the report with no modification to your code! Stay tuned for a tutorial video on this. Special thanks to those who requested this feature through our idea lab, it’s this type of input that helps the CX platform continue to evolve!
Add-In Custom Object Enhancements – Add-In developers have always had access to the record context of custom objects but they did not have all automation and events that were available on standard RightNow objects. Starting in May Add-In developers will also be able to use automation capabilities of the add-in framework to open, save and close custom object workspaces. In addition, add-in developers will have access to more events around custom object records, such as the deleting event.
Connect Common Object Model Expansion — We expanded the Connect Common Object Model offering greater object model coverage in our public APIs. The objects that were exposed were based on direct input from many of you through our Idea Lab, Connect Community Forum, and our RightNow Developer Conference. To be specific, beyond the Analytics objects to support running a report we added: Product & Category Linking, Variables and ChannelUserName for Contacts.
In the coming days I will be posting some tutorial videos for some of the feature additions I mentioned above. We will be covering all of these great additions in detail at the 2011 RightNow Developer Conference. If you have not yet registered I encourage you sign up today!
Please keep all the great ideas and feedback coming. We love evolving our CX Platform and need your input!
