As you may already know, we at Rightnow are on a mission to rid the world of bad experiences. When we say that, we mean it. Part of that commitment involves providing great web experiences for everyone. That last bit, “everyone”, is the part that really resonates with me and many others at RightNow. As Dave said earlier, we are experiencing an exciting time for accessibility here at RightNow. Although it’s not our first accessibility effort, it’s a time of acceleration, and it feels a bit like a plane taking off. We’re increasing our commitment, through the many upcoming projects that have accessibility as a requirement, as well as by increasing awareness throughout the company.
As we’ve conducted internal training on accessibility I’ve been amazed to see how many accessibility advocates work here and who are eager to rid the world of bad experiences for people with disabilities. The things we learned while making the November ’09 Customer Portal release accessible will hopefully soon be incorporated into our web best practices throughout the company. We also hope that our clients will be able to expand their accessibility efforts using Customer Portal as well.
That’s why today, we are releasing a new technical publication on accessibility which is available in the Community Library. This new resource outlines the importance of accessibility to RightNow, our approach to accessibility on current and upcoming projects, and best practices for accessibility that you can use on your own initiatives. If you’re totally new to accessibility, then this will give you a great intro. If you don’t need an intro, it will give you valuable insight into how to keep your CP implementation accessible as you make customizations. Let us know what you think of the technical publication and what you think of the new November ‘09 release. We are excited about both!
Do we have a plan to make our Feedback forms accessible? I understand we can edit the HTML to add tags but wondered if this is the long-term answer?
By the way – I heard a segment on a DC public radio station on accessibility and was proud to know that RightNow is in the game!
Here’s the link in case you want to listen. http://thekojonnamdishow.org/shows/2010-10-12/designing-accessible-technology and click on “Listen”.
Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your comments! I can’t give specifics about the Feedback product, but I do know that accessibility continues to be a priority for us and we can’t wait to see more and more products become accessible. Thanks for sending the NPR link, I will check it out.
